Larnaca to Kalavasos

Biking from Larnaca to Kalavasos is a must for any long distance cycling enthusiast. It takes almost six hours to complete all 98 km from Larnaca to Kalavasos and back, so plan for a full day of cycling.

The Route

The best part about this route is that you hug the southern coast of Cyprus for almost the entire ride, until Zygi when you turn north towards Kalavasos.

The tour begins in the south of Larnaca. Cycle towards the Larnaca International Airport and along the road in between the salt lakes.

Once you pass the airport, continue straight through Kiti to reach the 24 km stretch of road along the coast. A highlight of this stretch is the Love Cyprus Statue! Stop and snap a pic!

Once you make it to Kalavasos, stop to enjoy the beautiful architecture as well and fuel up with some fresh fruit before cycling back to Larnaca!

The route is mostly flat with minor climbs, so you don't need to worry too much about mentally or physically preparing for climbs.

And most importantly, don't forget plenty of snacks and water bottles! Six hours is along time to be on your bike in the sun.

Ayia Theklia Coast Trail Loop

For any cyclists who enjoy gravel rides with minor climbs, this is a great day trip to take from Larnaca. The route takes roughly 4 1/2 hours to complete depending on your speed, and covers 111 km.

The Route

To begin this route, cycle north from Larnaca along the Larnaca Bay until you reach the military base.

Pass the airfield and follow the road north until you reach Agios Georgios Acheritou.

From there, you'll zig zag in the direction of southeast until you come to the edge of Cyprus when you can begin to make your way back to Larnaca.

Continue cycling along the edge of the island through the Aiya Napa State Forest, then through Ayia Napa and Ayia Thelka.

Follow along the Agias Thelka up through Liopetri, down through Xylofagou, and then along the Larnaca bay all the way back.

Prepare for This Route

Much of the roads are unpaved, so rent an all terrain bike, such as a gravel bike or mountain bike to complete this loop.

Rent ahead of time, and know which date you plan to do this tour since it'll likely be a full day of cycling.
